Before You Buy - The Glock 45 MOS

When it comes to handguns, the Glock brand has earned a reputation for reliability and performance. The Glock 45 MOS, a hybrid member of the Glock family that combines the slide length of the 19 with the frame of the 17, is no exception. In this article, we'll explore the key features, specifications, range performance, and pros and cons of the Glock 45 MOS. I recently picked one of these handguns up to use as a test platform for various video ideas including competition shooting, optics testing, and of course working on my shooting skills. Thus far it has been quite the exceptional firearm and quite adaptable to my needs, however, the Glock 45 MOS comes equipped with a range of features that make it a standout choice for some, but maybe not for all. So soday we’ll take a look at its specifications, features and quirks to see if it might be a good fit for you.

A lot of people wanted this specific configuration for its unique combination of the full size Glock 17 grip/frame, with the shorter, lighter and precieveably less snappy Glock 19 slide and barrel length. The Glock 45 was so hotly requested and liked that several law enforcement agencies across the United States have already adopted it as a standard sidearm. The addition of the MOS or Glock Modular Optic system simply means you don’t have to have your slide milled for a specific optic style, but rather can use the MOS adapter plate system to attach pretty much any type of reflex sight to your Glock. However, that might be a downside if you’re dead set on running this pistol in a single configuration.

Glock 45 MOS Range Performance

The Glock 45 MOS excels at being a pistol that shoots well. The Glock 34, which is a long slide 9mm glock generally meant for competition, is probably the only other Glock I have actually enjoyed shooting for extended periods of time. Combined with the new RMR HD from Trijicon, the pistol is a joy to shoot at the range whether you’re running drills, or competing in an event like USPSA or Steel Challenge.

While Glock drops an improved Glock Marksman Barrel into the Glock 45 MOS, the trigger sadly still remains the same predictable yet spongy Glock OEM trigger. At this point I’m not really even upset by it anymore, it’s something I’ve gotten used to shooting with quite well, but it would be nice to try out one of Glock’s performance triggers, or even see the triggers start making their way into factory production Glocks.

One thing that the Glock 45 MOS does not do well is conceal. The pistol has the exact opposite configuration that you’d want in a concealed carry pistol, that being a shorter slide and a longer frame. The frame being the most difficult angle of a handgun to concel means that the Glock 45 is pretty much reserved for range use, competition use, or open carry in Glock 45 holster around the home or farmstead. Additionally, the Glock 45 might be a bit larger but for those seeking a nightstand home defense gun, the Glock once again can accept lights, lasers, and optics making it an ideal choice for those wanting a hmose defense handgun.
